Master Jason Kim is a science and biology teacher at St. Mary’s high school, educating and improving minds in a classroom. Master Kim educates and enhances the physical and spiritual aspects at the KT Tae Kwon Do school. From whence he could walk, Master Kim was thrust into the rigours and benefits of martial arts. Karate was the first formal martial arts system he trained in before joining Joe Kim Tae Kwon Do in the 90s.

Grand Master Joe Kim’s style of Tae Kwon Do incorporates other martial arts, such as Kung Fu, Hapkido, Judo, Boxing, Bodybuilding, and more. Master Jason Kim trained under his father, attaining his 1st-degree black belt in 1998. Master Jason Kim and Master Jennifer Kim are Masters from the founding batch of students, proudly embracing the full complement of the Joe Kim Tae Kwon Do curriculum.

Master Kim was president and an instructor (under Grand Master Sang Kim) at Western University. In conjunction with Master Joel Ridley (Royal Military College), Master Kim aided in the creation of the Ontario University Taekwondo Competition League (OUTCL). He created and ran clubs (of varying lengths/degrees) at: Canadian Public International School, Union Language Education Centre, St. Peter & St. Paul’s school, Sacred Heart High School, St. Mary’s High School, Georgian Bay Phoenix Gymnastics, and KT Tae Kwon Do. He’s facilitated seminars in board breaking, poomsae (patterns/forms), self-defence, nutrition & sport-specific exercise, and theory across Ontario. Most recently, Master Kim presented to students at the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame’s Health Sciences virtual fair. At Joe Kim Tae Kwon Do, Master Kim has directed Tae Kwon Do aerobics, day camps, summer camps, seminars, and high-performance camps.

Master Kim’s style incorporates traditional martial arts with contemporary movements from breakdancing, parkour, and trick kicking. This led him down the path to become a Provincial, then National, Referee. He was a referee at the 2015 Toronto Pan-Am Games and one of the first five freestyle judges in Canada. When his offspring come of age, he intends to become involved with refereeing again.

Tae Kwon Do is not about ability level or knowledge. It’s about the control of one’s emotions, fears, motivations, and actions. At KT TKD, we believe in giving back to the community. We believe that Tae Kwon Do is adaptable and accessible for people of all abilities. We provide a nurturing environment that pushes students out of their comfort zone to scaffold skills necessary for success.

Master Kim’s journey in Tae Kwon Do began because of his father. He is fortunate to have had such an exemplary role model during his formative years. Grand Master Kim imparted the values of volunteering, respect, humility, indomitable spirit, compassion, and so much more in conjunction with his wife. It is from these lessons that Master Kim, Head Instructor Thibodeau, and Master Lee offer these teachings to our students at KT.

During his off time, Master Kim enjoys being involved with extra-curricular activities at St. Mary’s high school. Adrenaline-seeking activities like flowriding, white water kayaking, mountain unicycling, kiteboarding, and more lend a calming sensation to his wild and awesome life as a loving father and dedicated husband. Master Kim gives thanks to his wife, Mrs. Chung, for allowing him the time and energy to dedicate to his extended Kim-Thibodeau family.
